World Women Riders: Sunita Mande and her craze for Harley-Davidson

Sunita Mande, 44,  a commercial design entrepreneur from Mumbai shares about her life with motorcycles.

Q) So Sunita, how long have you been riding motorcycle?

A) I have been riding since I was 16 years old that’s 28 years now

Q) Any specific reason you ride for?

A) Am quite a sporadic rider. I ride only when I feel the need to. It feels I am losing a lot of my emotional baggage. I get time to be with myself. Think and retrospect. I don’t prefer listening to music while riding. Love the sound of the engine more. I see the traffic ahead of me as challenges and love to weave through traffic. Love to see new places, changing landscapes and cultures while riding.

Q) Describe on how you got to where you are with motorcycling today.

A) It was not a conscious decision to get into biking. Just a lifestyle change. I learnt riding on a Piaggio LML / Royal Enfield Bullet and now me a owner of the Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 and  Harley-Davidson Roadking.

Q) Tell us about your motorcycles.

A) My Harley Sportster is called the SUPERLOVE SILVER and my Roadking the MAHARAJAH. My Superlove is swift and agile while the Roadking is stable and majestic. I love riding both my bikes. Have done 25000kms on my Superlove and about 4000kms on the Roadking since it is fairly new.

Q) Joined any  motorcycle clubs?

A) Yes. Me a member of HOG (Harley-Davidson Owners Group), Bikerni, LOH Group India and Lady Riders of India.

Q) How far have you ridden your motorcycle?

A) Till Pondicherry, Goa and Rajasthan. Would love to do the K2K ride sometime.

Q) Parents/ Friends- How do they feel of you riding a motorcycle. Any special comments?

A) They all are very encouraging, love me for my passion, my dad was the one who taught me to ride and my husband is my spirit who keeps on encouraging me. My son 18, too is proud of my riding skills.

Q) The motorcycles you wish / dream to see parked in your garage?

A) The Harley Davidson CVO gold

A) Ride your dream till the end.
