World Women Riders: Ligia Martins from Brazil, professional stunt rider

I’m Ligia Martins, professional Stunt Rider from Brazil. I started riding motorcycles 10 years back, but I started to practice stunt in 2015, October. My boyfriend, Daniel Ferreira, is a Stunt Rider too. He is my biggest supporter.

Q) Any specific reason you ride for?

A) I ride because I love motorcycles. I love to feel the adrenaline and stunting to me is my work and my fun.. I’m showing all my love and dedication for the Stunts.

Q) Scooters or motorcycles? The first motorcycle you started riding/ learnt riding?

A) I prefer motorcycle than scooter because it’s more fast and fun. I learned riding on my father’s motorcycle- Honda XL125. My motorcycle now is a Yamaha TTR125. But I ride on my boyfriend’s motorcycle, a Honda CB600 and a Honda CBX250.

My Yamaha TTR125 is motocross motorcycle but I changed its wheels for supermoto style. It is equipped with all bits n parts required for stunting like wheelie bar and hand break.
It have pink stickers. It’s looks beautiful !!

Q) Do you maintain and repair motorcycles on your own?

A) I do some simple repairs and maintenance work on my motorcycle. A bit complicated works are done by my boyfriend or my mechanics give me support.

Q) Joined any riding clubs/ motorcycle clubs?

A) I have been invited to Stunt shows in the motorcycle events in Brazil. Last year I worked with Benelli motorcycle in Thailand and China. They invited me and Daniel to participate in the commercial videos. I participated in the Benelli TnT 135 commercial.

Q) How are women motorcycle riders treated by most people and by male motorcyclists?

A) Now-a-days women riders are getting recognition and respect in the motorcycle world. But, unfortunately still there is prejudice. I have never passed through such situation. My male friends always support me.

Q) Parents/ Friends- How do they feel of you riding a motorcycle. Any special comments?

A) When I started stunting, motorcycling my parents, family and friends thought that I was crazy. But they saw that it is serious, that I really like this.

Q) Message to other female riders?

A) My message for the female riders is: Look like a princess, ride like a pro.
