Tata Motors just released two images of its new Zica hatchback set to go on sale at the beginning of next year. Codenamed the Tata Kite, the Zica gets its name from “Zippy Car” and will replace the Indica in India’s passenger car market.
When launched the Zica will be positioned below the Bolt and will compete against the likes of Chevrolet Beat, Maruti Suzuki Celerio, and the Hyundai i10.
The Zica hatchback may be powered by a newly developed 3-cylinder, 1.2-liter petrol engine and a 1.05-liter diesel, likely to be a downsized version of Tata’s 1.4-liter engine. Automated manual transmission (AMT) gearbox will be offered as an option.
On the other hand, the base variant of the Tata Zica has been spotted in the manufacturing plant. Surprised to see that the base variant gets chrome strip below the grille, body-colored turn signals integrated ORVM , rear wiper and washer and roof spoiler. However, it sports black bumpers and door handles, and steel wheels.
The upper-spec Zica will get alloy wheels, front fog lamps, rear parking sensors, turn signals integrated in the side mirrors, along with a 60:40-split folding rear bench featuring headrests.
Production of the Tata Zica will take place at the company’s factory in Sanand, Gujarat.
