Aston Martin’s much anticipated replacement for the DB9 grand tourer, the 2017 DB11, made its debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The DB11 is reputed to be ‘the most significant Aston since the introduction of the DB9 in 2003’.
The DB11 is the first new car to be launched in Aston Martin’s ‘Second Century’ plan. The car is based on a new modular platform that will underpin most of Aston Martin’s future lineup.
There’s a 20kg weight saving over the DB9’s chassis. Thanks to extruded bonded aluminium body structure.
The new DB is more sophisticated, more user-friendly, more capable, more comfortable and, though it hardly seems possible, more beautiful than the car it replaces.
The heart of the DB11 is a brand-new all-aluminium 5.2-liter, twin turbo V12 which punches out 600bhp at 6,500 rpm and 700Nm of torque from 1,500 rpm. The new engine is mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and a mechanical limited-slip differential and drives the rear wheels.
Aston promises the DB11 will run from zero to 100kmph in 3.9 seconds and keep moving until the speedometer needle touches the 322kmph mark.
