TVS has launched its Apache RTR 165 RP at INR 1.45 lakh (ex-showroom, India). This is the first offering under the company’s Race Performance sub-brand. TVS said that the model will be limited to 200 units.
At Rs 1.45 lakh, the TVS Apache RTR 165 RP costs significantly more than the top-spec version of the Apache RTR 160 4V (Rs 1.21 lakh). It also costs more than the top-spec version of its more powerful sibling, the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V (Rs 1.39 lakh).
While the design is the same as the RTR 160 4V, it does feature a unique colour scheme and seat cover. Additional aesthetic add-ons include a dual-tone red and black seat along with red alloy wheels at both ends. It also sports a ’15 Years Anniversary Edition’ decal on the fuel tank.
The most notable change on the TVS Apache RTR 165 RP is the heavily reworked engine. A new cylinder head, twin electrode spark plug, 15 per cent bigger valves, and hi-lift cams promise better and racier performance.
It now uses a 164.9 cc, four-valve, single-cylinder engine that makes 19.2hp at 10,000rpm and 14.2Nm of torque at 8,750rpm. For reference, the RTR 160 4V makes 17.5hp at 9,250 rpm and 14.73Nm at 7,250rpm. The power figure of the RTR 165 RP is much higher than any other 160cc motorcycle on sale in India. The bike also gets a slipper clutch, adjustable brake and clutch levers. It continues to use the 5-speed gearbox.
The new Apache RTR 165 RP should also be better on the braking front as it gets a 240mm disc at the rear which is the largest in this class.
TVS has said the suspension has been retuned for this bike. It misses out on the adjustable suspension the RTR 200 4V is available with. At 148kg, it weighs 2kg more than the rear disc brake-equipped RTR 160 4V.
