Honda has recently launched the all-new Shine 100 in India at an introductory price of INR 64,900 (ex-showroom, Mumbai). This makes it the most affordable Honda motorcycle in India.
The Shine 100 is equipped with an all-new air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 7.6hp and 8.05Nm at 6,000rpm. The engine is OBD-2 compliant and can run on E20 fuel, which is a blend of petrol and 20 percent ethanol. The company claims that the engine has been optimized to deliver higher fuel efficiency.
The Shine 100 features an all-new diamond frame, designed specifically for this motorcycle, and has a short wheelbase of 1,245mm, an accessible seat height of 786mm, and 168mm of ground clearance. These features make it easy to ride and capable of handling India’s poor roads. Additionally, the motorcycle comes with a fuel pump located on the outside of the fuel tank, making it easy to repair, and an auto-choke function that ensures the bike starts irrespective of the ambient temperature.
The Shine 100 is the most affordable motorcycle in the country with a self-start, at its current introductory price. It comes with a halogen headlight, side-stand inhibitor, and combined braking system. The motorcycle is available in five color options: a black base with red, blue, green, gold, and grey stripes.
In terms of competition, the Shine 100 competes with Hero MotoCorp’s HF 100, HF Deluxe, Splendor+, and Splendor+ XTEC, which are priced between INR 54,962 and INR 75,840. Bajaj’s Platina 100 is the only entrant in this space, priced at INR 67,475. With an introductory price of INR 64,900, the Shine 100 sits in the middle of the 100cc segment in India.
The basic 100cc bike segment accounts for almost one-third of the total two-wheeler sales in the country, and the new Shine 100 is expected to be a crucial product for Honda in India. Currently, Honda only has a 3.5 percent share in rural areas, and with the new Shine 100, the company aims to increase its market share. The motorcycle comes with a 3-year warranty that can be extended for a further 3 years optionally.
Bookings for the Shine 100 are now open, and production is set to begin next month, with deliveries scheduled to start in May 2023.
