Mahindra Scorpio modified into a Pick-Up truck with a soft top

Bimbra 4×4 has modified a Mahindra Scorpio featured below to have a pickup truck like rear bed along with a soft top. The body panels and the soft top among other things are well proportioned and this one does not feel like a hastily done mod job in any way. Finished in a dark shade of teal green, it looks quite good too and is built on the latest generation model of the SUV. The interiors have been kept stock apart from the fact that there are only two seats in the cabin now. The middle and last low seats have given way to the metal rear bed which is the distinguishing feature of this SUV now. The soft top can be rolled up and down easily according to the requirement or need. The tail lamps have been replaced with simpler rectangular units from Thar CRDe. Thi...

Why do most cars have engines in the front? We pick 5 possible reasons

We pick five main reasons for why most cars have engines in the front? 1) Manufacturing Cost: Having the entire engine-transmission-drive-cooling package in the front saves on assembly and production costs. The transmission box is directly attached to the engine and it operated manually by a lever mechanism. If the engine is placed at rear side, it will cause the transmission box placed at rear side which requires a more complex mechanism to operate transmission by driver manually. Similarly, the front side engine are easy to connect with control linkages like clutch and accelerator. This is also easy for servicing. 2) Engine Cooling: We know why cooling of an engine is essential for proper running for a car. If an engine got hot, it will fail soon or later. Most of modern autom...

Royal Enfield Himalayan put to durability test

The Royal Enfield Himalayan was a milestone for the brand as it not only broke away from the traditional RE format of classic motorcycles, but also ushered in a new era of affordable adventure tourers. While the Himalayan is likeable in many ways unfortunately it was plagued by several issues. The updated, BSIV variant is said to be a lot more reliable. Recently, folks at ADV Pulse decided to put the Himalayan through its paces. Here are their observations - Engine: With the 411cc, 24 horsepower motor that redlines at 6,500 RPM, the Himalayan is incapable of tearing itself apart. There were no mechanical issues with the motor in spite of rigorous tests. Transmission: Ride it more like a 125 two-stroke, to keep the momentum up and not letting the RPMs drop too low. The ga...

Electric vehicles can cause job loss at workshops? Here’s why

It takes people to make cars: to lift and install parts, check quality, test-drive them after assembly, and so forth. Automation has eliminated many of the jobs performed by humans a century ago and now the electric cars may pose a new threat: they will require even fewer workers to build. "EV’s maintenance cost to be 1% of ICE vehicles; can cause job loss at workshops", Abhay Firodia, President of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) Source: http://auto.economictimes.indiatimes.com A simple calculation: a battery-electric car has fewer than 200 moving parts, while a vehicle with a modern, turbocharged, multi-valve engine and nine-speed transmission (and perhaps all-wheel drive) has 10 to 30 times that number. EVs are much easier and cheaper to build than vehic...

ISIHMA (ISI helmet manufacturer association) demands compulsion on helmet rule. Ban non ISI

With the rise in number of road accidents on Indian roads, ISIHMA (ISI helmet manufacturer association) has demanded that the Government of India make Helmet compulsory for all riders in India. According to a report by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways that marks a 9.42 percent increase in road accidents over the last 11 years. Around 10,135 motorcyclists have lost their lives after either not wearing a helmet or using one that has no quality accreditation. The main reason for accidents of two-wheelers on Indian roads is that the riders are buying low-quality or non-ISI mark helmets from the roadside. In 2016, the death toll in road accidents in India was 19 percent, while the 70 percent riders that were injured or died were hypothesized to be due to not wearing a helmet. In Delh...
