Toyota has revealed its all-new Urban Cruiser Hyryder compact SUV in India. The SUV has been jointly developed with Maruti Suzuki and will be the first model under the partnership to be manufactured by Toyota. Toyota has opened bookings for its new compact SUV in India with deliveries expected to commence in the festive season. The booking amount is set at INR 25,000.
On the exteriors, Urban Cruiser Hyryder gets double-layer daytime running lamps that merge into the piano finished ‘Crystal Acryalic’ grille. There’s a chrome strip that extends from one corner of the grille to the other which divides the LED daytime running lights into two layers. The SUV also features sporty front bumpers with a tall airdam flanked by large full-LED headlamps. On the side, the strong hybrid models of the Hyryder get the prominent Hybrid badging on the doors – below the wing mirrors.
The rear of the compact SUV has ample use of chrome with a thick chrome strip in the middle, flanked by LED taillamp that feature dual C-shaped light guides.
However, Toyota is yet to reveal its size. Toyota has not talked about the dimensions of the new Urban Cruiser Hyryder as well.
Inside, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder gets a dual-tone cabin with soft-touch material on the dashboard. It also offers a panoramic sunroof, a freestanding 9.0-inch infotainment system, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, reclining rear seats and more. Toyota also offers connected technology that allows the owners to control various features of the car through a smartphone.
Toyota’s new compact SUV is is offered with two engine options – the company’s in-house 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a strong hybrid set-up and a mild-hybrid 1.5-litre engine borrowed from Maruti Suzuki. The system develops a combined 114 bhp. The petrol unit developing 91 bhp and 122 Nm while the electric motor has a peak output of 79 bhp and 141 Nm.
The Suzuki sourced 1.5-litre petrol engine meanwhile gets mild-hybrid tech and develops 100 bhp and 135 Nm. The unit is paired with either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic gearboxes. The fully-loaded manual additionally gets the option of all-wheel drive.
Safety kit includes up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, hill start and hill descent control, stability control and a 360-degree camera.
