Toyota has released the first official teaser of the new Innova Hycross. Slated to make its global debut in Indonesia next month, the refreshed MPV will get an all-new hybrid powertrain and refreshed exterior styling. The teaser image shows the front end of the new three-row MPV and there are visible styling cues like the grille from Toyota’s global models.
The new Toyota Hycross will be a global model and it will be sold in overseas markets like Indonesia, where it is most likely to be called the ‘Innova Zenix’. The India debut of the model will follow the global unveiling, which is expected to take place in Indonesia.
The front design of the car clearly shows the new MPV’s intent to look more like a crossover. It gets a larger hexagonal grille that is flanked by sleeker and aggressive-looking headlamps. These are expected to be LED units with integrated daytime running LEDs. The bonnet features strong creases and the bumper gets triangular housings for the fog lamps.
What’s revolutionary about the Hycross is underneath its skin. For the first time ever, the Innova nameplate will be based on a monocoque platform instead of a body-on-frame IMV platform that underpins the Hilux and the Fortuner. Another debutant for the MPV is a strong hybrid powertrain that drives the front wheels instead of rear-wheel drive which we have been familiar with.
The new MPV is expected to be larger than the Innova Crysta. It will continue to have space as its USP and Toyota will offer multiple seating options like the existing model.
The MPV is also expected to be equipped with a reshuffled feature list that could include a 360-degree camera and a larger infotainment system.
Toyota has also commenced the testing of the new Innova in India. Other details are yet to be known. The engine lineup is uncertain at the moment, and so, too, are the variants. It’s also unclear if the Innova will still have diesel options.
