Mahindra Scorpio-N launched. Features, variants and prices in detail

Mahindra & Mahindra has launched its all-new Scorpio-N at a starting price of INR 11.99 lakh for the entry-level petrol MT and going up to Rs 19.49 lakh for the top-spec diesel-MT variant (all prices, ex-showroom, India). The Scorpio N is based on a body-on-frame architecture.

The SUV is available in five variants – Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8 and Z8 L. Bookings will open officially on July 30, 2022, and the Scorpio-N automatic line-up’s prices will be revealed on July 21.

The brand has said that the prices announced today are only for the first 25,000 bookings. The new Scorpio-N is a significant step up over its predecessor, in terms of price and positioning; the latter will be renamed the Scorpio Classic and continue to be sold alongside the new model.

The Scorpio-N is also geared up to be sold internationally, and Mahindra said that along with India, South Africa and Nepal will also get the SUV right away. The Mahindra Scorpio-N will hit other international markets in 2023.

The new-generation Mahindra Scorpio has been already revealed in images that show the premium new styling. The SUV looks more upmarket with the slatted grille up front with chrome inserts, new twin-pod projector-lens LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, and new C-shaped LED daytime running lights.

The rear sports new vertically-stacked LED taillights that do look premium and have evolved well over the predecessor. The styling is completely new on the Scorpio-N and the model has also grown in proportions over its predecessor. The Scorpio-N is 206 mm longer, 97 mm wider, and has a 70 mm longer wheelbase than the current Scorpio. While the height of the scorpio has gone down by 138 mm, it still boasts a ground clearance of 187 mm.

The interiors of Scorpio-N get a dark tan shade with contrast black dual-tone set-up for the seats as well as dashboard, which looks premium. Mahindra has used a subtle dose of brushed aluminum trim on the dashboard, AC vents, center console and on the door handles, which doesn’t look overdone.

The Scorpio-N comes with a 8-inch touch-screen with AdrenoX infotainment system, has gloss black and silver accents, and, typical to SUVs, has an upright design for the dashboard. All versions of the Scorpio-N come with a 7-seat configuration as standard, while only the top-spec Z8 Luxury trim can be had in a 6-seat configuration, with captain’s seats for the middle row.

In terms of features, top variants get dual-zone climate control, analog dials with a large coloured MID, front and rear camera, auto start-stop, cruise control, Type-C USB ports for the first and second row, keyless go, wireless charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 12-speaker 3D Sony sound system and connected car features. It also gets Alexa-enabled What3Word that lets you set your location with just a three-word combination.

As mentioned, the new Scorpio-N is available in five trims – Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8 and Z8 L. The petrol engine is available on Z2, Z4, Z8 and Z8L trims with a manual gearbox as standard, while the automatic gearbox will be offered from the Z4 trim onwards.

Coming to diesel, the 132hp, 2.2 diesel engine is available on the base Z2 and Z4 trims with a manual gearbox and in rear-wheel-drive guise only.

Meanwhile, the 175hp diesel version is offered on the Z4, Z6, Z8 and Z8 luxury trims, with both manual and automatic gearboxes. While four-wheel drive will be offered on all manual variants from Z4 onwards, for the automatic versions, it will only be available on the higher-spec Z8 and Z8 luxury trims.
