Kia reveals fifth-gen Sportage SUV

The all-new Kia Sportage SUV has been revealed and this fifth-gen model has been completely overhauled, inside and out.

Talking about the design, the new Sportage takes the lighting elements to a new level. We get inverted LED DRLs on the front inside the large Tiger nose grille. The grille gets black mesh pattern and a large brushed chrome slab takes the centre of the grille. The lower part of the bumper gets big air dams and hidden LED fog lights. In a nutshell, the new Sportage is bold but doesn’t have a polarising design.

The side profile gets a sleek flowing design and the chrome garnishing extends to the very back and merges with the D-pillar. The rear profile of the Sportage gets a very unique lighting setup. The inverted LED taillights wrap the sides as well and are connected with a black applique. Lower down, we also get to see a unique mesh pattern and faux exhaust ports.

Inside, the Sportage gains a curved digital display, a new touchscreen infotainment display and an array of ‘soft-touch’ haptic switches on the gloss-finish centre console. Kia claims to have used “the highest-quality materials” throughout to ensure the Mk5 Sportage “is a special place to spend time”.

Kia has yet to detail any of the Sportage’s available powertrains, though it is likely to follow the closely related and recently updated Hyundai Tucson in gaining a range of mild-hybrid, full-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains based around a 1.6-litre petrol engine.
