BMW has released a teaser campaign of the upcoming 5 Series facelift with a shadowy image. The updated sedan is set to debut in the coming weeks, featuring a tweaked exterior design and a new plug-in hybrid powertrain option.
Compared to the current model, the facelifted 5 Series will get a larger grille (why are we not surprised), restyled bumpers, slimmer LED headlamps and new alloy wheels. Overall, the front fascia has become more aggressive now. Inside, the 5 Series will now feature the BMW Operating System 7.0. That means BMW will finally offer support for Android Auto as opposed to only having Apple CarPlay connectivity in the current generation of 5 Series!

Inside, the 5 Series facelift is expected to get only minor updates. However, a major feature addition will be the inclusion of wireless Android Auto compatibility with the infotainment system. The current model only gets Apple CarPlay connectivity.
Apart from the usual petrol and diesel engines on offer, it will feature a plug-in hybrid variant internationally. The new 545e will be powered by an inline-six engine augmented by an electric motor that will produce a combined power output of 400 bhp. Those are impressive power figures indeed. The BMW 5 Series is set to be unveiled in a couple of weeks time. However, it remains to be seen whether we get this powertrain option in India.
In India, the 5 Series facelift is expected to carry-over the current model’s engine options. These include a 252hp, 2.0-litre petrol in the 530i; a 190hp 2.0-litre diesel in the 520d; and a 265hp, 3.0-litre diesel in the 530d.
While there is no official timeline, expect BMW to launch the 5 Series facelift in India soon after its introduction in international markets. Currently, the BMW 5 Series range in India is priced from INR 55.40 lakh to Rs 68.40 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India).
