The all-new Mahindra Thar SUV has been crash tested by Global NCAP and has scored 4-star safety rating for adult and child occupant safety. This makes the Mahindra Thar India’s safest off-roader.
The first-generation Mahindra Thar barely had any safety provisions to speak of. And this is one of the main reasons why the carmaker had to pull the plug on the model. But a few months ago, the Indian SUV maker launched Thar’s second-generation model with several safety provisions. As a result, the new model is much safer than the predecessor and this is evident with Global NCAP’s crash test report.
As per the crash test report, the vehicle offered good protection to the head and neck of the driver and passenger. Driver chest showed adequate protection, while passenger chest showed good protection. Driver knees showed marginal protection while the passenger knees showed good and marginal protection. The car offered marginal and adequate protection to the driver’s tibias, while passenger tibias showed adequate protection.
The child seat for the 3 year old was able to prevent excessive forward movement of the head during the impact below the 550 mm limit. The car offered full protection to the 18 month old occupant.
