Patented images of the next-gen Maruti Suzuki Celerio have been leaked, giving us a preview of the upcoming hatchback. From what we could gather, we reckon the second-gen hatch has a more sensible and mature styling, with specific design cues taken from other Marutis.
The second-gen Celerio’s exterior design is a complete departure from the outgoing version’s squarish looks. The new car gets a rounded design that is devoid of any angular elements. Additionally, it also gets a more upright nose, a flattish-oval grille with honeycomb-like elements. The grille is smaller than before and seems to be sporting a chrome strip (similar to the Swift) connecting both the headlamps. Expect higher variants to get chrome outline on the grille. The front bumper gets a simple design with minimal creases and will get contrast black bits on the apron and the fog light surrounds.
The new-gen hatch will likely feature a 7-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a multi-info display, electrically adjustable ORVMs, remote locking, and front and rear power windows. Passenger safety should be taken care of by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors.
The 2021 Celerio will likely be larger, as it could be underpinned by the Wagon R’s Heartect platform. Under the hood, the new Celerio is expected to come with an 83hp 1.2-litre petrol engine along with the 1.0-litre three-cylinder K10 engine. Gearbox options are likely to be similar to the Wagon R as well, with a 5-speed manual as standard and a 5-speed AMT offered as an option.
