Mercedes-Benz has launched the 2020 AMG GT R in the Indian market. The new Mercedes-AMG GT R is available with a price tag starting at Rs 2.48 crore, ex-showroom (India).
The 2020 AMG GT R facelift continues to draw motivation from a 4.0-litre Biturbo V8, which churns out 585PS and 700 Nm and manages a 0-100kmph sprint in 3.6s flat, on its way to a top whack of 317kmph. The power is fed to the rear wheels via a 7-speed transmission.
The GT R features mixed tyre and wheel sizes, ceramic brakes and rear-axle steering for optimum control and agility. The engine plays its soundtrack and the crackles and pops through a three-pot active exhaust system made in titanium.
The new AMG GT R comes with a number of subtle updates and revisions over the previous model as part of its mid-cycle refresh.
Visually it is a bit hard to tell the difference between this updated AMG GT R and the outgoing model that’s been on sale in India, but a closer look reveals some new elements.
The Mercedes-AMG GT R has an eye-catching look, with a chrome-covered vertical 14 slat grille. The design of the rear wing has been revised as well. It also gets new AMG performance LED headlamps and, AMG A-Type panamericana grille and improved brake cooling measures.
At the rear it gets wider bumpers with air curtains, AMG performance exhaust system and tweaked carbon fibre wing.The rest of the car looks similar to its predecessor.
The bigger changes are inside the cabin though. The cabin is upholstered in Alcantara/Dynamica microfibre, with carbon-fibre and metal inlays to elevate the sportiness. Also features automatic climate control, and a multifunctional power steering wheel with cruise control. It has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment panel with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
For safety, there are features like multiple airbags, crash sensors, and rear parking sensors.
Mercedes-AMG GT R is one of the most popular Gran Tourer sports cars in the world. The AMG GT R was introduced years ago and since then has had a number of updates and various versions as well. The 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT R in India rivals the likes of the Jaguar F-Type and the Porsche 911 series.
