Police pull over bizarre electric vehicle

Police in southern England were baffled by the most bizarre electric vehicle they’d ever seen. The tiny white two-wheeler looked like an airplane cockpit without wings or a tail and had a body constructed from balsa wood and “duck tape.” But the most surprising thing about it may have been that it was found to be perfectly legal. An officer from the Beds, Cambs & Herts Roads Policing Unit tweeted photos of the vehicle, which turned out to be a custom electric motorcycle that was registered and insured. The make and specifications of this rare species is not known. Source: Twitter

Harley-Davidson unveils new eBicycle designs

Harley-Davidson showed off some highly anticipated new wheels this week, but they’re not the machines you might be envisioning. The iconic motorcycle manufacturer officially unveiled its first electric bicycle designs this week during the company's Annual Dealer Meeting in Milwaukee. The three initial models of the pedal-assisted bikes are “light, fast and easy for anyone to ride,” according to the company, which first teased its plans for eBicycles a year ago. “Designed to shine in urban environments, this all-new line of eBicycles is just one more example of how Harley-Davidson’s More Roads initiative is actively working to inspire a new generation of two-wheeled riders around the world,” the company said. The electric bicycles have been part of Harley-Davidson's push to...

Emissions reductions are only possible if you put people on bikes, not in EVs

That entails taking people out of electric vehicles and putting them on bikes or on public transport, more or less. The report, published on August 22 and titled “Clean Growth: Technologies for meeting the U.K.’s emissions reduction target,” looks at the way in which the UK has been able to achieve world-leading emissions reductions for over 20 years and the measures that need implementing for the trend to continue. Replacing current vehicles with lower-emission versions will simply not do, and is not the all-encompassing solution the government thinks it is. The report cites the United States Geological Survey’s warning of a possible future shortage of minerals needed to make electric vehicle batteries. Current estimates show that, at the rate EVs are made right now, mineral reserves...

Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500cc single spied testing for 2020

Royal Enfield is rigorously testing its BS-VI range, and we have seen several test mules of the 2020 models in the past via spy photographs. The new version spotted testing, although retaining its classic style, has inevitably been modernised and appears to take some clear 'learnings' from its recent 650 twins. For a start, the engine is brand new, with an external appearance much closer to that of the 650 twin. Given the company's requirements for smaller displacement machines, particularly for the vast domestic Indian market, we imagine capacity has remained at 500cc but it’s likely the new single will be oil-cooled just like the twins. The bottom end of the new engine also appears to be brand new with the final drive now on the left suggesting it’s a complete redesign rat...

Mahindra Scorpio modified into a Pick-Up truck with a soft top

Bimbra 4×4 has modified a Mahindra Scorpio featured below to have a pickup truck like rear bed along with a soft top. The body panels and the soft top among other things are well proportioned and this one does not feel like a hastily done mod job in any way. Finished in a dark shade of teal green, it looks quite good too and is built on the latest generation model of the SUV. The interiors have been kept stock apart from the fact that there are only two seats in the cabin now. The middle and last low seats have given way to the metal rear bed which is the distinguishing feature of this SUV now. The soft top can be rolled up and down easily according to the requirement or need. The tail lamps have been replaced with simpler rectangular units from Thar CRDe. Thi...

Toyota Glanza – rebadged Maruti Baleno spied before official launch

‘Glanza’ is the official name of the rebadged Maruti Baleno hatchback which will be retailed via Toyota dealers from 6th June. It is the first car that will be launched under the Toyota Suzuki alliance, which was announced in 2017. The Toyota Glanza was not expected to have any sheet-metal changes, but even the bumpers, headlamps, alloy wheels and tail lamps having no difference from the Maruti Baleno is a little surprising. It seems like Toyota has gone beyond expectations when it comes to cost-cutting, and that the interior may completely mimic that of the donor car. As you can see in the leaked photos of Toyota Glanza, the front features the same chrome lip on the grille, but instead of the black part of Maruti Baleno’s grill, Toyota has given Glanza thick slats of chrome. A...

Road Safety tips for women driving alone

Women are regarded as ‘’safer” drivers and less likely to be in a road accident. Why do most cars have engines in the front? We pick 5 possible reasons

We pick five main reasons for why most cars have engines in the front? 1) Manufacturing Cost: Having the entire engine-transmission-drive-cooling package in the front saves on assembly and production costs. The transmission box is directly attached to the engine and it operated manually by a lever mechanism. If the engine is placed at rear side, it will cause the transmission box placed at rear side which requires a more complex mechanism to operate transmission by driver manually. Similarly, the front side engine are easy to connect with control linkages like clutch and accelerator. This is also easy for servicing. 2) Engine Cooling: We know why cooling of an engine is essential for proper running for a car. If an engine got hot, it will fail soon or later. Most of modern autom...
